Community Invited to ?Get Into Energy? Preview Event March 1 Event Includes Drawing for Two $1,000 Scholarships The community is invited to participate in a free Yavapai College ?Get Into Energy? preview day on Saturday, March 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the College?s Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC), 220 Ruger Road near the Prescott airport. The event, open to all ages, includes free hot dogs and Pepsi. The atmosphere will be electric in more ways than one as the College offers contests, demonstrations, prizes and information related to its electric utility and pre-engineering courses. Both programs prepare students for well-paying careers in a variety of industries. The event includes a drawing for two $1,000 scholarships for these programs, and career coaches will be on hand to discuss career options and class offerings. ?People should know about the great educational resources we have here that prepare people for jobs and contribute to the economy,? said John Morgan, Yavapai College dean of career and technical education. ?There?s a countrywide shortage of trained workers in these fields. Anyone looking for a career opportunity should definitely attend, but there will be activities for the whole family. You?ll get an inside look at programs, equipment and instructors who are preparing students for well-paying technical jobs in Yavapai County and beyond. We guarantee that you?ll have fun and come away surprised and impressed?maybe even inspired.? Guests will be able to try their hands at robot control, motor trainers, knot tying and targeting water balloons from on high in cherry picker buckets. Demonstrations include electric utility pole climbing and ?hot stick? tools used to connect live wires. Guests who get their electric utility passports stamped at five or more events will be entered to win prizes. Representatives from Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP) and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will be present to provide information about job opportunities in the electric utility industry.
