Pianist Brian Lockard and Soprano Deobrah Raymond join together to perform Romantic and Contemporary works for piano and voice from Spain, France, the British Isles, Germany and Russia. November 13th, 7pm, at our Yavapai College, Verde Campus Room 137, 601 Black Hills, Clarkdale. Admission Free Brian Lockard is a pianist, performance artist, arranger, and composer residing in Cottonwood, Arizona. He has recorded three studio albums: Brian Lockard Plays Ragtime, Praise Him! Praise Him!, and Film 88. Brian Lockard was born and raised in Arizona. He began playing piano at age 5, but soon informed his mom that he was 'overwhelmed' and needed to quit lessons so he could focus instead on baseball. Realizing that he needed an off-season job to complement his athletic career, Brian went back to the piano.During high school, baseball was replaced with basketball, but it wasn't as rewarding as winning local piano competitions. College previews found Brian enrolled as a pre-med student, but the call of the arts was overpowering and he went on to get two degrees in piano performance: a Bachelor's from Northern Arizona University and a Master's from Texas Christian University. Soprano Deborah Raymond made her critically acclaimed debut as Salomé at the Semper Opera in Dresden/Germany in Joachim Herz's production which was televised throughout Europe. She was featured as Zoe in Stephen Climax by Hans Zender and as Eine Dirne in the world premiere of Reigen by Philippe Boesmans at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels directed by Luc Bondy. Later Reigen was revived in Strasbourg and the Théatre du Chatelet in Paris and is available on Compact Disc. The filmed version was seen on television throughout Europe. She performs regularly in Flagstaff, Arizona with concert pianist Jeffrey Swann; with the Flagstaff Symphony (Verdi Requiem, Mendelssohn?s Elijah, Barber ?Knoxville: Summer of 1915?, Mozart C Minor Mass, Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Beethoven Ninth Symphony). She has also performed with the Missoula Symphony (Wagner Liebestod), the Sedona Chamber Music Festival (Schoenberg?s Second String Quartet with the Chicago String Quartet), and Master Chorale of Flagstaff (Handel?s Messiah). Her staged performance of Schoenberg?s Pierrot Lunaire with Jeffrey Swann and NAU music faculty was a triumph, as was her recent performance of Ravel?s ?Shéhérazade? with Brian Lockard and Emily McKay. In May 2015 she was artistic director and performer in a commemoration of seventy years since the end of World War II and the Holocaust, presenting works by Viktor Ullmann and other composers from the concentration camp Terezin, as well as ?I Never Saw Another Butterfly? by Ellwood Derr. Ms. Raymond is Associate Professor at NAU and has taught there since 2001.She is active in National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and was Arizona Governor of the organization for three years. Her students have won numerous awards and many are accepted into graduate programs of the best music schools and conservatories in the country.
